Newtown, CT
Preschool, Elementary, and Middle School
HVWS is located in beautiful Newtown, Connecticut in northern Fairfield County. Near the crossroads city of Danbury, and accessible to commuters via I-84 and the Merritt Parkway, we are within easy driving distance to New Haven, New York City, the Connecticut shoreline, and the rolling foothills of the Berkshires. Our location affords ample employment opportunities, traditional and contemporary lifestyle activities, entertainment, dining, and recreation. Newtown is considered a quintessential New England town: a beautiful, family-oriented place with architectural, geographic, and social features that enhance family life.
Homes of many sizes dot the landscape—a mix of woods, fields, and streams. Several modest, clustered shopping areas are found throughout the town, places where one often runs into neighbors and friends. These retail hubs, along with many places of worship and community spots such as the Ram’s Pasture, Treadwell Park, Dickinson Memorial Park, Edmond Town Hall (where movies are still just $3), and even part of a vast State Forest, are all elements of the hometown landscape. And located just a stone’s throw up the road from the HVWS campus in the Dodgingtown section is Ferris Acres Creamery, where everyone loves the fresh, homemade ice cream while enjoying a panoramic view of grazing cows.
Community theater, an arts center, regular live entertainment, athletic teams, dance studios and horse farms all provide good times for young and old alike, while the special events such as the Labor Day Parade, the Newtown Arts Festival, the Earth Day Celebration, the Duck Race, craft fairs, and sports events make life in Newtown fun.
HVWS is proud to be located in Newtown, to offer many events, programs and activities to its citizens, and to serve residents and neighbors alike with an educational philosophy founded on the principles of love, respect, and freedom. We are a preschool, elementary school, and a middle school and offer a summer camp to keep children ages 3-14 busy and active when school isn’t in session. Residents of Newtown may use the town’s school bus service to transport their children to HVWS during the school year.

At Housatonic Valley Waldorf School, we believe in academic excellence and offer an education that prepares students for the highly competitive worlds of high school, college, and beyond. But we don’t believe that education is simply the gathering and remembering of information. Instead of focusing on test scores, we seek to develop students’ minds, bodies, and souls from within to embark on a lifelong journey of education and discovery.
