Deepening the Dialogue: Centering Justice and Joy in Your Child’s Library
April 26 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Visiting Author: Zetta Elliott, PhD
The HVWS Diversity Committee has spent much of this year compiling a list of children’s books to purchase for our classrooms and libraries with funds provided by the NoVo Foundation grant. In conjunction with this effort, we are pleased to welcome award-winning writer and educator Zetta Elliott, PhD to HVWS. Dr. Elliott will visit the school to read to our lower grades classes during the day and offer a lecture for parents in the evening.
The interactive evening presentation will show how inclusive books can foster cross-cultural understanding at an early age. At a moment when communities are confronting divisions and public schools are rapidly “resegregating,” the need for diverse children’s literature is greater than ever. In this talk Dr. Elliott will share her journey from teen writer to published author, and provide resources for parents and educators interested in building libraries that prepare all children to live in a global society. The evening will include a Q & A and book signing. Read more on her website: http://www.zettaelliott.com/
