Why Choose HVWS?

Housatonic Valley Waldorf School is the only Waldorf grade school in Connecticut, serving children from birth to 8th Grade. Our families come from around the neighborhood and around the world, and share a desire to provide their child with an education that will make a lasting difference in their lives and their families with a vibrant, supportive community.

During the eight+ years the students are with us they travel from fairy tales to Shakespeare, from dreamy watercolor painting to the precision and exactness of geometry, from the wonder of nature to botany, chemistry, physics and physiology. These academic achievements coincide with an ever-increasing self and social awareness as the students’ capacities unfold and are encouraged in a developmentally appropriate manner, in a safe and reverent environment. The Housatonic Valley Waldorf School is a place where your child will be truly known.

Waldorf education develops lifelong learners and remains with graduates as a touchpoint for that which is true, good, and beautiful. Repeatedly, our Admissions team hears how well-prepared HVWS graduates are socially, academically, and personally. They carry a quiet confidence about their capabilities and potential: eager to engage in class discussions, confident when conversing with adults, infused with creative curiosity. An HVWS education lasts a lifetime.

Being personally acquainted with a number of Waldorf students, I can say that they come closer to realizing their own potentials than practically anyone I know.
